Herne Bay Ponsonby Rackets Club will be hosting the premium National Squash men’s and women’s teams event next week from Friday 2nd June – Sunday 4th June.
This is the cream of the crop of our nation’s squash players, and a highly coveted event to win. Players are travelling from all over the country to participate with a record 26 teams taking each other on to win a trophy.
And our own Herne Bay Men’s A team are seeded second! It’s been 5 years since we last won it, but with a strong track record and loads of local support we can win it again.
If you’re around over Queen’s Birthday weekend, pop on down to the club to see some amazing squash and cheer on our boys.
And if you have a leave pass, Saturday night we have the Lions opening tour match on TV plus live music entertainment – Racket Abuse are reforming for a one-off gig from 8:30pm! And Sunday night the biggest party of the year -Our ‘Everything British (& Irish)’ theme party ties in with the Lions tour and of course it’s Queen’s Birthday weekend.
See you there!

Other stuff ...
Thanks for your patience with the light repairs on court 3. The problem has required ordering of a wiring part that needs to be fitted into the light tower base. We have been advised this will be available by the end of the month.
Also, don't forget the Pro Shop is your easiest first stop for any accessories or re-strings; contact David for any advice on specific equipment requirements.
And last chance to enter the French Open Club Event
There are a few spots left, so if you want to join in to this French-themed event this Saturday, May 27, 1-4pm this is your last chance! Email Jacqui at firstname.lastname@example.org. Entry is $10.
If you are interested in playing Superchamps this year please either register on the form downstairs on the noticeboard by the squash courts or email email@example.com with your name, email address, phone number and grade.
The District and National Superchamps events are played to identify the strongest club in the country for each grade. Teams are composed of five players per club that are in the same grade (B, C, D, E and F/J for both men and women). Entries will also be taken for separate B2 & C2 divisions, which will only be played as a regional competition (no National competitions). At the District Superchamps clubs in a single district play off to find the district champion in each grade. The district champion is then eligible to travel to the National Superchamps finals to play off for the national title. Teams contest ties in round-robin and/or knockout format, with the team that wins three or more matches declared the winner.
To be eligible for the Auckland District SuperChamps, players must have competed in a minimum of THREE competitive matches, with results showing in iSquash on the grading list, between 1st January 2017 and 15th June 2017
It would be great to get the teams together early to start training. Heres hoping we have a few more teams than last year, please come and support the Club.
Junior Squash Club Night this Friday 26th May 4-6pm. All juniors welcome, including any friends that would like to give squash a go. (Please note there is no Junior Club night on Friday 2nd of June due to HBPRC hosting the Cousins Shield and Mitchell Cup).
Congratulations to the Herne Bay 1 & 2 teams who finished in first and second place in the Northern Jets Competition. The Cup is now on display at the Club.
There are a number of unpaid invoices, mainly relating to Squash & Tennis Interclub Fees and Club Champs entry fees. The Club relies on these payments to operate. Reminder invoices have been sent and Jacqui will be calling to chase up these payments this week.
Invoices will also be generated this month for the current period of Squash & Tennis Winter Interclub Fees. We would appreciate prompt payment. Thank You.
Congratulations to Dave and Julie Brown on the arrival of their baby girl, Sophie Elizabeth Gillaly Brown, on the 18th May 2017. We all look forward to meeting her at the Club.
