Sophie, Club Manager
Club Night caterer Allie returns THIS Thursday to provide her fabulous meals. Allie needs to provide 15 meals each night so please come on down and support her and the Club and make Club Night really special. 6:30pm onwards, Happy Hour 7-8pm... AND the weather is looking great for a hit!
For those of you who are new or haven't had Allie's specialties, it's worth coming down for - nevermind working it off on the courts beforehand! SO, bring a mate and come for a cheap and fantastic eat THIS Thursday night.
To sweeten the deal, we're offering a $2 discount on all meals pre ordered by midday on Thursday. So if you'd like to order, please email me at email@example.com and deposit your payment (less your $2 discount) into the account with your surname as reference (12-3019-0504798-00). When you turn up just let Allie know you're here and she'll get your order ready.
The menu for this week is:
- Spicy Chicken Salad $15 (my personal fave!)
- Prawn Salad $15
- Fish and Chips $15
- Beef Burger $12
Don't forget to order by midday Thursday to get your discount. Orders at full price are available on the night. Feel free to bring your mates along too.
A very warm welcome to new sponsors, Barfoot and Thompson Ponsonby! Member Tim Irvine and his team of keen beans are now Platinum sponsors of the Club. Their signage will be adorning Tennis Court 3 very soon and you can find their business cards in the sponsors card holder in the lounge.
Welcome to Tim and the team! I can vouch for their enthusiasm so far and look forward to welcoming them to the Club and courts regularly in future. Thanks for your support.
A belated but very well deserved congratulations goes to our Men's 8 and Women's 1 teams who won an Autumn Squash Pennant. These teams were captained by Simon Judkins and Rebecca Ellmers. Well done guys and great work from your teams. Herne Bay did pretty well with a number of runner ups too. The score boards are mixed so far for the Winter round but it's early days, so GO THE BAY and bring some more pennants home!
Announcing the first week back for Junior Squash Club Night, this Friday!
The little ones (up to around 10/11 yo) start at 4pm and the over 11s start at 5pm. Club squash pro Chris Lloyd will take the sessions and will discuss with parents any coaching or interclub needs and help point you in the right direction for the season ahead.
This is perfect winter training for small people so turn up on Friday and let Chris turn them into stars! Contact Chris on 027 286 6028 for more detail or just turn up!
The Committee this week agreed to extend the hours that Junior members can access the Club/Courts.
Juniors are now able to access the Club and courts anytime outside of peak hours which are 5pm-8pm Monday to Friday. This means that anytime outside these hours, including all weekend, Juniors may now access the Club and book courts.
A full membership review will be done over the coming months, but this change means that Juniors can now play with their families on weekends.
Juniors will still need to book courts through me - just drop me an email and I'll load you in. In the future we hope to give all members a login but the software just isn't quite ready for that.
I have two spaces recently vacated by long serving bar volunteers. If anyone is harbouring a desire to pour pints, crack open some bevvies and chat with friendly locals in a fun and friendly bar, there is surely no better opportunity than here at Herne Bay Rackets!
For those who haven't done bar duty before, you are assigned one date each month which will fall on a different day each month (which you can always swap if it ends up not suiting you in a particular month). Shifts start at 6pm on weeknights and end when everyone's gone home, or at least another bar person is there to take over, and our licence ends at 10:30 so it's never later than that. Weekend shifts are 3-6pm (in Summer it's 2-6 on Saturdays because of tennis interclub).
Not only do you get to know your fellow members, and they get to know you, but after a year of service you get a $50 discount on your membership, you get 3 free drinks on your night and we're always coming up with new ways to reward your service.
Please let me know by reply email. I will give you training and encouragement and your fellow members will give you the love you deserve :-)
