Here's an update from our Masters representatives in Hong Kong!

The 5 Herne Bay representatives (Shayne, Mark, Scott, Brendan & George) plus George’s father Ron flew into the sweltering heat and humidity of Hong Kong Friday morning. A warm up match was held on Friday on an all-glass court, very unusual and very  loud! The opening ceremony was on Friday evening for the 720 odd competitors from all over the world, and first matches Sat morning.

Shayne (admittedly looking and feeling a little worse for wear) lost a 3 set tussle to a very strong player.

Scott won a relatively comfortable 3-0 match though his opponent feared him from the beginning by donning safety goggles!

Mark played very well to take out a German competitor 3-0 (he didn’t mention the war!)

George also played strong squash to win 3-0 and his Dad the same.

Finally Brendan (after sampling the local night life well into Friday evening & Saturday morning) succeeded in sweating a large amount of alcohol onto the court in losing 3-0!

So 4 wins and 2 losses, not bad.

Round 2 saw Scott & Mark take on strong opponents on Sunday and both lose 3-0. The others had a bye.

Monday morning saw Ron win a great 5-setter in the 65+ group (he is now an honorary HB club member) whilst Shayne went down in an unlucky 3-2 battle. This afternoon sees both George and Brendan in action and no doubt in for tough games.
