Senior Tennis Club Champs

Club Champs are getting underway in March. Entries are now open for Mens Singles/Doubles, Womens Singles/Doubles and the always entertaining mixed doubles.

This year we are looking to make it a fun afternoon down at the club and will be getting through as many first round matches as we can for the various events on Sunday 23 March.  All finals + prize giving will be played on Sunday 6th of April (weather permitting) so you must be available on 23/3 and 6/4 to enter (all other rounds to be played with flexibility between these dates). The BBQ will be firing and the beers will be flowing so put these dates in your diary to hit the court or come down for the afternoon and watch!

Sign-up sheets are on the notice board or email Sophie on service@hernebayrackets.co.nz and let us know which events you’d like to enter. ENTRIES CLOSE SATURDAY 15 MARCH.

Junior Tennis Club Champs

It’s also time to get organised for the Junior Tennis Club Champs. This is a great opportunity to have a bit of fun and be as competitive as you wish.

Singles and Doubles entries for Girls or Boys are now being taken for the following age groups: 8 & under (Grasshopper), 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under and 16 & under. To be eligible for the "x & under" you must still be x or under as at 31/03/2014. You must also be a current financial club member. You may only enter 2 events.

Sign up forms are on the Tennis noticeboard or contact Jacqui on mustardtennis@xtra.co.nz or call the Club office on 376 0681.

Play ‘Survivor’ this Rugby season

To celebrate the start of Super Rugby, we’re running Sky’s popular ‘Survivor’ game. Each week you pick a team you think will win and if you’re right, you stay in the competition… if you’re wrong and they lose, you’re out. Here’s the rub – once you’ve selected a team, you can’t select that team again for the rest of the tournament. Hmmmmm!!

Entries are $10 and the winner takes all.

If you’d like to enter, please email me your name and your pick for the first week (which will be the second round) plus your $10 (by internet, bar or cash) no later than 5pm, Friday 21st Feb. No money, no entry… Each week I’ll email you the teams that are playing, and you can either email your picks to me or write them on the poster when you’re at the Club. Entries will close next Friday and you can’t join in later, so don’t miss out!

Don’t forget we’ll be showing all the games live here at the Club, including the Blues @ 7:30pm this Saturday Night.

Tennis Interclub Update

The second half of the season is well underway now, and some great results from Herne Bay are coming through. Open Presidents 5 have muscled their way to the top of the table with just one round to go, and our Mens Caro Reserve and Second Grade have both started the new year with two good wins in a row! Good luck to OP5 and the rest of our teams for their remaining games!

EPIC BATTLE ALERT: We have two teams in the Open Mens 2 grade this year, and the inevitable match off is scheduled for Saturday the 8th of March! This may be a great opportunity to come down to the club and watch some entertaining tennis and a few dodgy line calls (Jake?). The bar will be open!

Card Night

Next Thursday, 27th Feb, don your visors and pa-pa-poker faces and get ready for a night of cards. The Cousins Shield boys are raising funds to attend the competition in Burnside this year and it's a matter of pride! We've won it before and we came so close last year, so let's get the boys over the line this year!

Poker tournament: no limit Texas Hold Em, $50 entry fee, 30 players max

Blackjack Tournament: $10 entry, 6 player final

The Cousins Shield is the premier club teams events for men in New Zealand squash. Highly sought after, this award has been contested since 1948. Teams of five men per club are pitted against other clubs and the club that wins three or more matches wins the tie.

Club night this Thursday

It must be an election month, as Gary’s offered to keep the free BBQ going for Club Night this week! Happy hour 6:30-7:30pm, some fine tennis action from 6:30pm, another $50 Chapel Bar and Bistro voucher to be won and some excellent conversation and fun as always.
