Hi all, hope you all have a safe and sunny long weekend. Did you know Auckland Anniversary day celebrates the arrival of William Hobson in 1840?

Here are some interesting facts of a more racket-club orientation...

1. Changes to the Tennis Online Booking System

2. Australian Open finals

3. Bar closed on Monday

4. Office closed on Wednesday

Changes to tennis online booking system

The online booking system has been going well so far and we’ve had some very positive feedback. One issue we encounter regularly is people bringing guests with them and not paying the visitor fee and/or bringing them in peak times. In order to be able to trace visitors and also to know who is on court at any time, we have altered the booking system slightly.

You must now select your playing partner, the system will not allow you to book a court without selecting at least one other member. If you are bringing a guest, you must select ‘Visitor’ on the drop down menu and remember to pay your $10 visitor fees before you go on court. Please remember that you cannot bring a guest between 4-8pm weeknights.

Australian Open finals

Despite not making it through to the finals myself (due to injury), we can still offer members some excellent viewing opportunities in the Club lounge. If you have someone with bar access with you, you’ll find various couches and stools will accommodate your bottom half while your top half enjoys some fine beverages and some excellent tennis action. They start in the late evening, so why not come for a hit, order up some pizza and settle in for the night…? Don’t forget the next stage in the enduring battle between Rafa and R-Fed is on tonight, so come on down for what should have been the final (IMHO).

Finals details are:

Women’s: Na Li v Dominika Cibulkova, Saturday 25th, 9:30pm NZ time, followed by Men’s doubles final

Men’s: Stan Wawrinka v Rafa Nadal or Roger Federer, Sunday 26th, 9:30pm NZ time

Bar Closure Monday

Please note that as Monday is a Public Holiday, our precious bar volunteers need a holiday too, so the bar will not be open. If there is a member with bar access please feel free to ask them to sell you a drink or two! Eftpos only. Back to normal on Tuesday.

Office Closure

Please note that the club office is closed next Wednesday. If you need balls for interclub (yikes it’s that time already!) please arrange another time to collect them.
