Tennis Club Champs 2018, results

If you were lucky enough to be at the club on Sunday for the Tennis Club Champs 2018 finals day you will know that the reversion to a finals day format this year was a great success. A series of tension-filled exciting games was played from morning through to early evening in conjunction with BBQ and refreshments (and some sunshine to bask in for the deck gallery).

Thank you to all 64 entrants who participated in the competition; it is a step up from social play to front up and take on the challenge, and the event couldn't function without that particpiation.

Suggestions for fine-tuning the comp have been taken on board and include tighter rein on the window matches are played within, perhaps running some divsions on separate weekends, and having a finals weekend, with semis on the Saturday and finals on the Sunday, plus more involvement from juniors on finals weekend. Hopefully we can tweak things to grow and improve the comp for next year.

There are still two senior comps to complete (Mixed Open and Men's Doubles), plus a couple of junior finals to play, but results in other divisions were as follows:

Women's Singles winner Deb Carter, runner-up Peta Drayton

Women's Open Doubles winners Deb Carter & Jacqui Mustard, runners-up Miyuki McEwen & Suzie Strachan

Women's B Doubles winners Jacqueline Luxton & Rachael Nicholson, runners-up Bronwyn Dick & Carolyne Gebbie

Men's Open winner Kaipara Solomon, runner-up Jake Riordan

Men's B winner Jake Riordan, runner-up Simon Holloway

Men's B Doubles winners Arie Dekker & Matt Goodson, runners-up Alan Dobbs & James Mackinnon

Mixed B winners James Graham & Lucy Harris, runners-up John Isbey & Callie Fell

Girls' Singles winner Kaya Eibles, runner-up Frankie MacFarlane

Boys' 10 winner Ashton McCaughan, runner-up Arthur Yeoward

Boys' 14 Singles winner Gaspard Lemaitre, runner-up Louis Lepionka

Congratulations to all and thanks to all who helped make the event a success.
